A sun shading pavilion, derived it’s name from the former nut island according to the Lenape tribe is located in the “learning hub” of the Governor’s Island. A solar shading device that adds a new iconic visual marker to the island’s landscape.
Forming a picturesque backdrop to the existing classroom, the pavilion also serves as an outdoor workshop, a breakout and shaded serene space.
Inspired by the evolution of a platonic shape the tetrahedrons, shade in the pavilion is provided both by metal and fabric panels that resemble the modular form of a tetrahedron. It’s exterior covering is emphasized by two distinct materials steel, and recycled PVC mesh.
